Last weekend we took a road trip and listened to the audio version of this book both ways. It was so engrossing that the trip flew by and our four year old never once demanded Disney princess music instead. The author was a chess prodigy as a child. The film Searching for Bobby Fischer was made about his childhood and in the book Waitzkin describes some fascinating experiences he had as a celebrity child genius, but he focuses much more of the book on what he did with his life after that and more importantly, how he lives his life now. Waitzkin is passionately interested in what makes some people successful and what these people do differently in order to master skills. It may sound boring, but it's not. I swear. I have no patience for dull books and this one had me immediately hooked. Waitzkin is a great, evocative writer and his love and knowledge of his topic really come through. The Art of Learning by Joshua Waitzkin was a great surprise. Definitely recommend this book and if you get the audio version it is read by the author himself, which is something I always look for.
