So this is what's been keeping me up at night, people. Delivered to my Kindle Christmas morning as a very welcome gift, Lev Grossman's Codex is a sort of thriller for nerds, gamers and lovers of all things medieval, historic, mysterious and literary. At first I thought it might be too slow but I kept on and the pace definitely picked up. After reading Grossman's The Magicians Trilogy, I was hesitant to read a non-fantasy book by the same author, thinking it might lack the spark of imagination that made me a full-on Magicians fanatic. But it didn't! All of the same exciting attention to detail and world building is still present, but with a truly original twist. Grossman is an incredible writer and it's a joy for me to read his words. Give this one a shot and you'll be as surprised as I was.
